Arroyo Grande Real Estate

Arroyo Grande Real Estate is located on the Central Coast of California, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. A perfect climate is one of Arroyo Grande Real Estate's biggest assets. Fine homes, fine schools, fine antiques, fine wines, and fine people characterize the area. Civic pride creates a sense of community, and public and private partnerships show progress at a comfortable pace. Tourism and agriculture spur the local economy and provide the impetus for a "feast" of yearly festivals and celebrations, each one showcasing local products, local pastimes, and local businesses. Arroyo Grande hosts the annual Strawberry Festival featuring the most famous crop and the Harvest Festival reminds residents of the agricultural heritage; a summer car show boasts a display of more than 300 custom and antique vehicles; and Christmas in the Village charms young and old.

The History of the Arroyo Grande Valley begins with its earliest inhabitants. They were the northern or Obispeno Chumash Indians. The Arroyo Grande Valley was still occupied by the Chumash Indians when the valley was discovered by the first Spanish explorer, Juan Cabrillo.

Then in 1832, Francisco Zeba Branch was bear hunting when he first came upon the Arroyo Grande Valley - it was very wild country then, still untouched by western civilization. Branch was intrigued by the wild yet beguiling valley that weaves out of the hills and connects to the dune-rimmed Pacific shore.

It's no longer possible to do what Branch did back in 1832. He bought nearly 17,000 acres of Arroyo Grande Real Estate and started a successful cattle business. When a drought hit the valley hard in 1864, Branch began to sell parcels of his vast Arroyo Grande real estate holdings to local settlers. The Village of Arroyo Grande was then developed to serve them.

By 1876, there were 35 families in the valley and the farm-based community began to flourish and thrive. A railway station was built in 1882. In 1911 residents voted to incorporate the City of Arroyo Grande.

In addition to all the festivals, Arroyo Grande is known for some wonderful landmarks. This includes the Swinging Bridge which tourists come from all over to see. The bridge was constructed in early 1875 by the Short family, whose land was divided by the Arroyo Grande Creek and it is the only one of its kind in California.
