Avila Beach Real Estate

Avila Beach is a Central Coast gem.  Like other better known communities on the central coast of California, interest in this San Luis Obispo County beach is tremendous and not in proportion to the town's modest population.  What makes Avila Beach unique is how it is being rebuilt after having been virtually destroyed by a 400,000 gallon oil spill. The town was torn down, the contaminated soil removed, and planning started for a new Avila Beach community. After some starts and stops, construction is going gangbusters in this small beach town. Today, Avila Beach continues as a popular and historic seaside resort.

What makes Avila unique in today's real estate market is that it continues to have the flavor and traditions of the old Avila , but instead of buying an old house to get that type of tradition, you can build your dream home or second home to the specifications you choose. Buying into the Avila Beach real estate market is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Olde Port still remains the historic anchor to the area. Walk the pier on a sunny day and you will be greeted by seals sunning themselves. There are fish markets and the Old Port Inn at the end. Grab a table, and watch the waves through the looking glass in the middle.

Old Avila was a cute little beach hangout with hot dog and pretzel carts. The carts are still there but are framed less by the ocean now as the new real estate development improves what was lost.  Frequented by residents, college students from nearby Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and tourists, Avila Beach is now more family friendly.

What continues to separate it is the topography, geologic structures and population. Avila Beach offers bay views and colorful hills that change color seasonally. Comparing this location to the populated regions of San Francisco or San Pedro with similar hills, we visualize thousands of people, houses, ships and busy ports in Avila Beach . Across the bay and within view, San Luis Wharf was one of the busiest ports in California a century ago.

Today, Avila Beach is a community with a resort atmosphere.  Sunbathing, swimming, boating, fishing, surfing, golf and the beaches can be 10 degrees warmer than a few miles north where the wind often provides a chill. In fact, locals say that this protected cove has some of the warmest, finest beach weather on the Central Coast .

Activities include:

Avila Beach Golf Course is nestled in the hills and on the bay. It is a par 71, 6500-yard championship course. The front nine is situated within oak-lined valleys. The back nine transverses a tidal estuary. Golfers of all levels will enjoy the challenge of this course.  The Avila Beach Golf Resort is the home of the golf course and hosts numerous annual events throughout the year, including the California Festival of Beers on Memorial Day weekend, the Central Coast Wine Classic in July, Pops By the Sea Concert on Labor Day weekend, and Jazz by the Sea and Central Coast Salmon Enhancement each fall.

These events are in addition to other concerts, special holiday banquet celebrations and golf tournaments that take place each year at the breathtakingly beautiful Avila Beach Resort.
